Our Approach

Yoga as a Clinical Tool — Not Just Exercise

Classical Ayurveda and classical Yoga are sister sciences — Yoga Shastra and Ayurveda Shastra share the same philosophical foundation (Sankhya) and were designed to work together. At Prakash Nethralaya, we teach yoga the way the classical texts intended: as a clinical tool for balancing the Doshas, preparing the body for Panchakarma, managing chronic disease, and cultivating overall wellbeing.

This is not generic yoga with Sanskrit names. Every class is informed by our 25 years of clinical experience treating eye diseases, musculoskeletal disorders, digestive conditions, and women’s health — and is designed to work alongside, not separately from, your Ayurvedic treatment.

Hita — that which is beneficial — must be determined individually. What nourishes one person’s constitution may aggravate another’s.

Charaka Samhita, Sutra Sthana
🧠
Prakriti-Specific Practice
Every student is assessed for their Dosha constitution (Vata/Pitta/Kapha). Classes and pose sequences are tailored to balance — not aggravate — your individual Prakriti.

Dosha-Based Classes

Yoga for Your Constitution

The same pose sequence is not right for everyone. Here’s how we tailor practice to each Dosha.

🌬️
Vata Dosha

Vata-Balancing Yoga

Vata types need grounding, warming, and stability. Rapid, dynamic sequences aggravate Vata. We focus on slow, held postures that build earth and fire, reducing the natural tendency to anxiety and physical instability.

Tadasana — standing mountain
Virabhadrasana I — warrior (grounding)
Balasana — child’s pose (security)
Nadi Shodhana Pranayama
Yoga Nidra — deep relaxation

🔥
Pitta Dosha

Pitta-Cooling Yoga

Pitta types need cooling, surrendering, and releasing control. Hot power yoga dramatically aggravates Pitta. We focus on moon salutations, forward bends, and cooling Pranayama that release perfectionism and heat.

Chandra Namaskar — moon salutation
Paschimottanasana — forward fold
Matsyasana — cooling fish pose
Sitali & Sitkari Pranayama
Shavasana — extended relaxation

🌊
Kapha Dosha

Kapha-Energising Yoga

Kapha types need energising, heating, and stimulation. Gentle restorative yoga can deepen Kapha tendencies toward heaviness. We focus on dynamic flow, inversions, and breath retention that light the digestive fire.

Surya Namaskar — rapid sun salutation
Sarvangasana — shoulder stand
Ustrasana — camel (heart opener)
Kapalabhati — skull-shining breath
Bhastrika — bellows breath

Unique to Prakash Nethralaya

Netra Yoga — Clinical Eye Exercises

Prakash Nethralaya’s Netra Yoga programme is the only structured eye yoga programme designed and supervised by Ayurvedic eye specialists. The exercises are drawn from Shalakya Tantra and classical texts — and are specifically adapted for patients with chronic eye conditions.

These are not just generic “eye exercises” — each exercise is clinically indicated for specific conditions, with particular attention to intraocular pressure, retinal health, and ocular muscle fatigue from screen use.

Frequently Asked Questions

No prior experience is needed for most of our classes — we have beginners in almost every batch. We do ask that you inform us of any injuries, recent surgeries, or health conditions when enquiring so we can guide you to the right class and level. The Therapeutic Yoga for Chronic Diseases class requires a brief medical clearance from our team before joining.
A stable internet connection, a yoga mat, and a quiet space. Classes are conducted on Google Meet — you will receive the link on your WhatsApp. A laptop or tablet is better than a phone for seeing the instructor clearly. For eye yoga classes, please ensure you are in a room with soft, natural or warm lighting (avoid harsh fluorescent lighting during Trataka).
All live sessions are recorded and the recording is shared in the class WhatsApp group within 2 hours. The recording is available for 7 days. We understand schedules vary — we just ask that you inform us if you’ll be absent from live sessions regularly, as the teacher adjusts guidance based on who is present.
Most Netra Yoga exercises are safe for almost all eye conditions. However, specific precautions apply: for example, Sarvangasana (shoulder stand) must be modified or avoided in certain Glaucoma cases with uncontrolled IOP. We do a brief eye condition assessment at intake and our instructor is always available before class to discuss any specific modifications needed for your condition.
